Tour Description:

  • 40% of this ride is off road. Mongolia has an ever shifting network of dirt tracks that cross open pasture lands, valleys & mountain passes. These tracks can have deep potholes, washouts and rocks. On a small number of occasions we will cross creeks and shallow rivers with muddy entrance and exit points.
  • 60% of this ride is on paved road. however, expect huge potholes, tall shoulders and bad cambers. Some roads are brand new and almost all are empty.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Upon your arrival at Ulaan Baatar airport, our transfer service will take you directly to our joining hotel. Your adventure begins with a tour briefing and a welcome dinner.
  • Day 2: Today, we’ll embark on a short ride to get accustomed to our bikes and the Mongolian terrain. We’ll explore the breathtaking Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, known for its mountains, rivers, and unique rock formations. After an early arrival, we’ll enjoy lunch and have the afternoon to explore the surroundings.
  • Day 3: We’ll spend a full day exploring the Tuur River Valley and visiting the colossal Genghis Khan Statue before returning to our luxurious 5-star accommodation.
  • Day 4: Today, we’ll have a longer ride heading north towards Russia through the unspoiled landscape of rolling green hills and distant valleys. We’ll reach the gateway city of Darkhan and spend the night in another excellent hotel.
  • Day 5: Our journey takes us into a remote part of Mongolia, a serene landscape with Gers, yaks, and wild horses. We’ll venture onto dirt tracks following the Selenge River, visiting the Amarsbaysagalant Monastery and experiencing our first ger camp under the star-studded sky.
  • Day 6: Today offers exceptional riding as we traverse the vast Mongolian Steppes, passing through picturesque valleys, and bordered by distant mountains. Another night in a charming ger camp awaits.
  • Day 7 & 8: Known as the “blue pearl of Mongolia,” Khovsgol Nuur (lake) is a true marvel, nestled at the base of towering granite peaks. We’ll ride through an alpine forest and over a steep pass to reach the lake, allowing us to explore this stunning alpine region.
  • Day 9: We’ll embark on a short ride back to Moron, then hit the dirt again, covering 16 km south on a barely discernible track to reach a gorgeously located ger camp at the mountain’s footh.
  • Day 10: Leaving the hospitality of the ger camp behind, we head due south into the most remote regions of the entire ride, crossing into the Arkhangai Aimag, all on dirt. Expect breathtaking scenery, spectacular riding, and stunning silence.
  • Day 11 & 12: Today presents the most challenging riding as we venture further into remote Mongolia. This rarely visited region features mountain passes, epic Mongolian Steppe, pure air, and stunning color clarity. Our destination is Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur or Great White Lake, where we’ll spend two nights to soak in the idyllic landscape.
  • Day 13: Today, we ride through a landscape of volcanic craters and lava fields, occasionally encountering herds of grazing yaks. After days in pristine wilderness, we’ll experience a change when we stay in a town, the Australian-owned and run Fairfield Guesthouse.
  • Day 14: We transition to pavement today, although the dirt beside the road remains smoother. The landscape remains beautiful, and we’ll visit the former capital of Kharkhorin, founded by Genghis Khan in the mid-13th century.
  • Day 15: Our final day on the bikes will see us leaving the ancient capital on narrow paved roads that progressively become busier, a notable shift after the past two weeks of empty track riding. We’ll arrive in the capital of Ulaan Baatar mid-afternoon.
